Christmas Is Coming - A&Es Busiest Time Of Year?

Some people think that Accident & Emergency is busier over Christmas with extra DIY and slightly heated games of Trivial Pursuit on the cards a lot of us would expect this to be true. However, this isn't actually the case. What is the case though is that there are certain injuries which occur which are very much tied to the festivities.

The amount of admissions which are due to alcohol related injuries goes up significantly, so around 70% of A&E admissions are due to alcohol according to Salford Royal Hospital, with this figure being even higher on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. There are also a lot more admissions for illnesses that have occurred as a result of the season's cold weather such as pneumonia and slips and falls.

If you have an accident this Christmas, it is therefore highly likely that it may be due to a bit of seasonal over indulgence. In these situations a lawyer will not be able to help you, however in some situations you will have an accident at Christmas that is not your fault. If this happens to you this Christmas, you should be able to get the support of a personal injury lawyer to gain you the compensation you rightfully deserve.

Common Christmas Injuries

  • Injuries in the kitchen
  • Stress related illness
  • Injuries whilst decorating: falls whilst hanging lights, electrocutions from Christmas lights, injuries from glass baubles and other decorations
  • Alcohol overindulgence
  • Food poisoning
  • Indigestion
  • Candles: both a burn risk and a fire risk
  • Mistletoe: the berries on mistletoe are poisonous - ensure that they are far away from children
  • Slips and falls

Obviously most of these things will simply occur due to an accident and unfortunately accidents do happen. However, sometimes your Christmas is marred by an accident that is not your fault. In these circumstances, you may be able to make a personal injury claim for compensation, and rightly so. You should not have had to have this time of year ruined due to the negligence of a third party. For example, if you have suffered food poisoning after visiting a restaurant over the Christmas period they will be liable for the illness they have caused you.

This Christmas, take care of yourself and if you do have an accident which is not your fault, remember that not only are the fantastic staff in our hospitals and GP surgeries there to pick up the pieces, so is Moffat.

Testimonials

Since contacting Stan I was continously informed of the development and progress of each step of my claim. Stan was persistent and patient throughout the whole process and reassured me he would win me the compensation I deserved - and he was true to his word. I am extremely happy with the outcome of my claim and this is all thanks to Stan.

Sarah

My case was dealt with personally by Stan Moffat and what a brilliant guy. His office contacted me personally by telephone at the start of my claim to explain who they were and what they would be doing for me. All through the case I was kept fully informed of all actions either by e-mail or by letter and reassured by Stan several times of any queries I had.

It is very seldom that a solicitor will take the time to speak personally at any time with you without getting run through secretaries etc. I commend this man for that as this was a very upsetting and important time for me and he did everything in his power to make this as easy and as swift as possible for me.

I highly recommend the service that this firm brings and the speed that they move at.
