Whiplash Claim Scotland

What is a Whiplash Injury?

Many people will have heard of the term "Whiplash" but what is a Whiplash Injury? This article looks at the stages of a whiplash injury, from the initial impact (usually during a car accident) to the progression of the injury and treatment.

What is Whiplash?

This is the obvious place to start. Whiplash is an injury that occurrs usually when someone is stationery in their car, and another vehicle drives into the back of their vehicle. During the impact the person, usually wearing a seatbelt, is pushed forward by the impact. The chair moves forward with the car and most of their body (that is connected to the chair) moves forward with them too. However, the neck does not normally touch the chair, and therefore it only makes contact with the seat when it is snapped back and hits the head rest. By this time the seatbelt has done it's work and has stopped the body moving forward. Unfortunately, as the body starts to move backwards under restraint, the neck snaps forward. It is during all of this movement that the neck is stretched well beyond its comfort zone that the whiplash injury occurs.

Whiplash Injury Pain

Whiplash pain manifests itself in many different ways. It can lead do headaches, dizziness, shoulder pain and of course neck pain. A sore, stiff neck pain is the most common form of whiplash and it can last for as little as only a few days to a number of years or even permanentl pain. Fortunately, in most cases a whiplash injury does not lead to permanent pain and most people make a full recovery within a matter of weeks or months.

Whiplash Treatment

If you have been involved in a car accident and believe that you have suffered a Whiplash Injury you should immediately seek medical help. You should visit your GP or local Accident and Emergency Department and explain the circumstances leading to your neck pain. They will examine you and on some occasions carry out an X Ray to ensure that there has been no serious injury to the neck. They will often provide you with painkillers and advise you to return if the pain continues. Whereas neck collars used to be prescribed as the regular treatment for a Whiplash Injury, the modern thinking is that it is better to keep the neck mobile.

Painkillers may be prescribed and if the pain continues, physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment may be recommended by your General Practitioner.

What Action Can You Take?

If you have suffered a Whiplash Injury you should seek early legal advice. Initial enquiries should be free of charge and someone with experience in this area of claims will quickly be able to advise you what your options are and how much compensation you are likely to receive.

Testimonials

My case was dealt with personally by Stan Moffat and what a brilliant guy. His office contacted me personally by telephone at the start of my claim to explain who they were and what they would be doing for me. All through the case I was kept fully informed of all actions either by e-mail or by letter and reassured by Stan several times of any queries I had.

It is very seldom that a solicitor will take the time to speak personally at any time with you without getting run through secretaries etc. I commend this man for that as this was a very upsetting and important time for me and he did everything in his power to make this as easy and as swift as possible for me.

I highly recommend the service that this firm brings and the speed that they move at.
